Everett's own account describes a night when Pirahã men, drunk on cachaça supplied by a Brazilian trader, worked themselves up to try to kill Everett and his family for a shotgun, an incident he had to defuse by disarming his neighbors himself. Ethnographic accounts also note that violence can occasionally happen, especially under the influence of alcohol or toward outsiders, so "avoid violence at all costs" overstates a culture that is genuinely peaceful most of the time but not without exception.

The 'immediately' part oversells it. Vaccine passports and negative-test entry did become part of West End reopening policy around July 2021, but reporting from that same summer shows theatres were still struggling badly, with COVID cases in casts and the 'pingdemic' forcing shows to cancel. Recovery happened, but it took years, not an immediate bounce back.

The CIA's own Inspector General looked into this and found no evidence that CIA employees sold drugs themselves or dealt directly with major traffickers like Ricky Ross. What the report did find is that the agency knew some Contra-connected people were trafficking cocaine and dragged its feet on cutting ties with them. That's a real scandal, but it's not the same thing as the CIA running a drug operation to fund the Contras.

The framing is off. Ted Turner never ran Warner Bros, he ran Turner Broadcasting System, and it was that company's 1993 purchase of Castle Rock Entertainment that let his network TNT air The Shawshank Redemption cheaply. Warner Bros didn't get the film's rights until Time Warner and Turner Broadcasting merged three years later, in 1996.

The photo wasn't of a flu shot line. A reverse image search traced it to an Associated Press photo showing people lining up for a COVID-19 vaccine drive at a church in Oklahoma City in January 2021, months before Rolling Stone's ivermectin story ran and with nothing to do with it.

Major health authorities say diet alone cannot cure cancer. The National Academies states that a healthy diet alone cannot cure cancer and that no evidence shows specific diets or foods can treat or cure an existing cancer. A 2018 JNCI study of 281 patients who used alternative medicine instead of standard treatment found they had a much higher risk of death than matched patients who had standard care. The speaker's mother's story is a personal account and cannot show that diet alone cured her cancer. Falsifier: a peer-reviewed trial or registry showing a treatable cancer cured by diet alone, with no conventional treatment, would overturn this verdict.

Robbins did say he lost 25 pounds, about two a day, on a 14-day cleanse of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup, and news outlets repeated it. There is no independent record such as weigh-ins or medical data. Studies of 14-day water fasts show an average loss of roughly 7 to 8 percent of body weight, so 25 pounds for a tall man is plausible. Much of that early loss is usually water and lean mass, not fat. A dated before-and-after weight record from Robbins or his team would settle this.

Studies do find that keto can improve sleep quality, change the mix of sleep stages, and reduce daytime sleepiness. That is not the same as needing less sleep, and a review of keto and sleep says high-quality long-term studies are still few. The speaker also said he did not know why, so this rests on personal experience. A controlled study showing keto dieters stay rested on measurably less sleep would flip this.

Two of these three check out: Pulp Fiction and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective did come out in 1994, same as The Shawshank Redemption. But Jurassic Park hit theaters in June 1993, a full year earlier, so it doesn't belong in that group.

The California corrections department listed the Actors' Gang Prison Project as offered in 15 CDCR institutions in an August 2024 update. The group's own materials in recent years cite 13 or 14 California state prisons, so no current source I found supports 18. The 18 figure in the episode is not matched by any current count I could reach. Falsifier: a current CDCR or Actors' Gang listing showing programs in 18 California prisons would overturn this verdict.

There's a real study behind this, but the flat '7x' figure skips the context. Israeli research during the Delta wave did find vaccinated-only people were several times more likely to catch COVID again than previously infected people, with figures in that range depending on the outcome measured. What usually gets left out is that people who were both infected and vaccinated had the best protection of all, and that getting infected to gain that immunity carries real risks the vaccine doesn't.

The body does not run entirely on ketones while fasting. A review in a peer-reviewed journal says the brain mainly uses glucose under normal conditions, and plasma ketones are usually low after an overnight fast, supplying less than 5% of brain metabolism. Ketones only become a major fuel during prolonged fasting, when they can cover almost 60% of brain energy needs, and glucose is still used throughout. Falsifier: a peer-reviewed study showing ketones supply most of the whole body's energy within the first day of fasting would reverse this verdict.

It's true SAG-AFTRA didn't ban AI outright, but an outright ban was never really the ask. The union pushed for and got requirements around consent and compensation for digital replicas and limits on reusing a performance beyond what it was made for. Calling that a failure to draw a line is a one-sided read of a deal that was widely reported as a significant win for actors.

There's no evidence this drink removes toxins from the body. The kidneys and liver already handle detoxification on their own, and nutrition experts describe the master cleanse as a fad diet that mostly just causes temporary weight loss from severe calorie restriction, not a poison flush.

The Harvard half checks out but the MIT half doesn't hold up as well. Harvard epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff, a co-author of the anti-lockdown Great Barrington Declaration, really did get suspended and blacklisted on Twitter over his COVID posts. But there's no solid record of an MIT expert being deplatformed for questioning lockdown effectiveness specifically, so lumping MIT in with Harvard overstates the case.

They're not really the same. Both diets can put the body into ketosis, but the carnivore diet cuts out all plant foods, along with the fiber and micronutrients a less restrictive keto diet can still include. Dietitians also point out there's no clinical evidence the carnivore diet itself provides health benefits, unlike the ketogenic diet, which has actual clinical research behind it for uses like epilepsy treatment.

Concentrated sugar treats aren't a modern invention. People on the Indian subcontinent were refining sugar from cane over a thousand years ago, and sugarloaf, a solid refined sugar product, was already a common commodity in medieval times, long before industrial candy production.

This doesn't hold up. The 2023 WGA contract bars studios from using AI to write or rewrite literary material, from using a writer's work to train AI without consent, and from using AI to cut the number of writers or their pay. That's a real hard line, even though writers themselves are still free to use AI tools voluntarily if they choose.

This isn't a real requirement. Pre-selling foreign territories is one common way producers raise money, using the contracts as collateral for a loan, but plenty of other paths exist too, including negative pickup deals, gap financing against unsold rights, tax incentives, straight equity investment, and crowdfunding. None of those require foreign sales to already be locked in.

Fasting shows up in a lot of religions, but not on one uniform weekly schedule. Muslims fast every day for the entire month of Ramadan rather than one day a week, Jewish fasts fall on specific yearly dates like Yom Kippur, and the Baha'i fast is a single stretch each March.
