Joe Rogan Experience #2570 - Mystery Boys · Aired Oct 23, 2026
Claim summary · not a verbatim quotation
Everybody who eats undercooked Lanmaoa asiatica sees little people.
The finding
What remains unresolved
The Lanmaoa asiatica mushroom can cause little-people hallucinations, but the claim that everybody who eats it uncooked has that effect is not established by the cited evidence. A retrospective series of 81 hospital poisoning admissions reported visual hallucinations as the first symptom in 56 patients and gastrointestinal-only presentations in nine. The paper does not report raw-versus-cooked exposure for those nine patients, so they are not demonstrated counterexamples to Joe's conditional uncooked claim. Conversely, those selected hospital cases do not establish a universal effect or an incidence rate for all consumers. This remains unverified rather than disproved by that series. The study concerns poisoning and does not establish a safe preparation method.

Quick answer
Is it true that Everybody who eats undercooked Lanmaoa asiatica sees little people?
We can't say yet. The Lanmaoa asiatica mushroom can cause little-people hallucinations, but the claim that everybody who eats it uncooked has that effect is not established by the cited evidence. Joe Rogan said it (matched by voice) on Joe Rogan Experience #2570 - Mystery Boys, aired Oct 23, 2026, at 1:24:20. We couldn't settle it from the evidence we captured, so it stays an open question, not a false claim. The supporting source is onlinelibrary.wiley.com, linked below.
